What is the HIMSS EMRAM model?

definitionchapter-04

HIMSS EMRAM (Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model) is an eight-stage model (0–7) measuring progressive EHR capability in hospitals. Stage 0 indicates no ancillary systems; Stage 7 represents a complete EMR with data analytics, health information exchange, and no paper. As of 2025, fewer than 8% of hospitals globally have achieved Stage 7. In England, several Global Digital Exemplar sites have achieved Stage 6 or 7.
