What is a Caldicott Guardian?

A Caldicott Guardian is a senior person (typically a board-level clinician) appointed by every NHS organisation and local authority to protect the confidentiality of patient information and enable appropriate information-sharing. They act as the conscience of the organisation on patient confidentiality, advise on lawful data sharing, and champion the balance between protecting information and sharing it to improve care.
