How is the 'Working Backwards' methodology applied in digital health innovation?
Working Backwards begins with the desired customer outcome and reasons back to the solution. It requires answering five questions: Who is the customer (be specific — e.g. ‘emergency department nurses during triage’), What is their problem, What is the most important benefit, How do you know what they need (evidence vs assumptions), and What does their experience look like? The centrepiece is a PR/FAQ document (4–6 pages) that describes the innovation as if already launched, forcing clarity before investment.
