What is SNOMED CT and how is it used in the NHS?
SNOMED CT (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine — Clinical Terms) is the most comprehensive clinical terminology worldwide, containing over 350,000 active concepts. It has been mandated for use in NHS England primary care since April 2018 and is progressively being adopted across all care settings. It uses a concept-based model with Concepts (unique clinical meanings), Descriptions (human-readable terms), and Relationships (logical links between concepts).
